Becks - From Galactico to Galaxy

Former England and Manchester United captain, David Beckham, will leave Real Madrid when his contract expires in the summer of 2007, to join American Major League Soccer outfit, LA Galaxy. The proposed five year deal is reported to be worth £128m, which I'm sure will come in handy for Beck's and his wife Victoria 'Posh Spice' Beckham.

After a long career in top flight football, most of which was spent in the English top tier, before his £25m move to Real Madrid in 2003, Beckham has decided to take it easy in the States, where he'll undoubtedly be the biggest fish in the MLS pond. He has played in possibly the most demanding league in the world, the EPL and for two of the biggest clubs in the world, in Manchester United and Real Madrid, so he can't be begrudged a cushy number to top up the old pension plan, can he? Living in LA will probably appeal to his missus too.

£128m is an awful lot of money, even over 5 years, especially for a 31 year old player who is way past his best, but who can blame the guy? If somebody is willing to pay it out then he'd be a fool to turn it down. With a bit of luck, their being across the pond might mean that they feature a bit less in our own news circuits, but I have this strange feeling that they'll just find more opportunities to make news over there.
