Bristol City off to Wembley
As you will see from the site, I\'ve remained quiet about Bristol City\'s achievements this season, despite it being such a great one. Clearly, I haven\'t wanted to jinx us and you know how superstitious football fans can be. It is a season that has culminated in the club booking a place in the Championship Play-off final, against Hull City, for a shot at the promised land that is the English Premier League. I\'ve been lucky enough to get tickets for the biggest game in the club\'s history and am waiting nervously for the big day.
The last couple of years have been a great time to be a Bristol City fan, in some contrast to the previous seasons aplenty, where we were a mediocre outfit, with plenty of helpings of disappointment and the occasional side order of heartbreak. Along came Sir Gary Johnson and the whole club has slowly changed from then until now. Only a handful of players remain from those days and the vast majority of the incoming players have been superb, improving the squad by their inclusion. The mentality of the club has changed with this and when Ernie Arafoon became involved, it told me something about the passion that must be had by everybody involved in the workings of the club.
Come Saturday the 24th of May, 36,000 Bristol City fans will be on the edge of their emotions, as they take their seats at Wembley, all banking on the next ninety to one hundred and twenty minutes producing the result we all so desperately hope for. The way the team has performed in the last three games, the last two being crunch-time, will give heart to fans and players alike. However, we all know that it is a one-off game and absolutely anything can happen on the day. Form really will go out of the window for this match, it will be all about this one game of football.
No matter what, I can always look at this season as being the best I have ever known in all my years following Bristol City and certainly one to be proud of. If we win, then \"yeah baby! We\'re in the big time! Let\'s see what we can do.....\". If not, then I can only hope that next season we give the Championship as good a go as we did this season. Considering how the club is now, I think that the attitude to do that is there, without question. It has been a long, long time that I have been able to maintain this level of genuine confidence in the club, with this kind of consistency, for this length of time.
Regardless of Saturday\'s result, we have had a fantastic couple of seasons as a competitive football club. We have grown and matured into a proper football club, with all the right people involved, all pulling in the right direction. We seem to have made some friends around the country, and even abroad thanks to Nick Carle, and have enhanced our reputation as a footballing side. Long may it continue.
Come on you Reds! Let\'s go an make ourselves proud on Saturday at Wemberleeeee!
